If you love Frisbee golf but hate to stop playing as the Sun goes down, then the Night-Flyer can be just what you need to finish the back nine and put on a light show at the same time.
The Night Flyer comes with a dual fiber optic string of multi colored LEDs which give off an other worldly glow as the Flyer is flung into the air. The Red and blue lights also flash and phase into each other. Discs are discs are competition size and weight, waterproof and can float should it end up in water, and are powered by two CR2032 batteries for up to 30 hours of nighttime use. This also makes for low power should you be playing catch with your Whippet and don’t want him to have a shocking experience.
The discs also come with two adjustable wrap-around LED headbands. The headbands can either be red or blue for players who want to play Ultimate and know who they’re throwing to.
Cost is about $30 US from I WANT ONE OF THOSE.

The problem seemed minor and only affected a limited number of discs. In Activision’s new Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock for the Wii, users were finding that their music was playing in stereo, rather than the Wii’s Dolby digital surround sound. As such, the music was good, just not virtual. And most who didn’t have a Dolby sound system probably wouldn’t have noticed, but those serious audio/game philes hit the roof and Activision promised prompt replacement discs to correct the error. But it’s taking longer than planned.

Will the XBox become the WiiBox? Or the PS3 become the PSWii? No, neither company is initiating a hostile takeover of Nintendo. However, the idea of the other platforms building Wii like capabilities into their designs is ripe for becoming reality. At a recent Game Developers Conference, some pc geeks were showing off a gesture controller and software code which can mimic the functionality of the Wii with an Xbox, PS3 or any other game platform. The controller incorporates “ 1 to 1 mapping of a gesture controller” and translates the movement on screen. It was used to demonstrate what the long awaited, vaporware-like Wii lightsaber controller would look like.

Spider Spud, Spider Spud. Does whatever a Spider Spud can. Spins a web, anytime Spider Spud, Spider Spud. Does whatever a Spider Spud can. Spins a web, anytime … well, you get the idea. Of course you had to see it coming. After creating Darth Tater, and Optimash Prime, was a Spiderman spin off of the classic Mr. Potato Head that far of a stretch? (Not to mention Artoo Potatoo, Spud Trooper, and a host of other movie tie ins.)

This year is the year of smart toys that edu-tain children during playtime. These toys let kids build scale model houses (completely with frames) to “molecular models of quasicrystals.” Most of these informational toys are funded by the National Science Foundation, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t cool to play with. And kids can get a leg up in winning that coveted National Science Fair scholarship.

STAR WARS, the science fiction movie and merchandising juggernaut, and Battleship – the classic board game that has gone all high tech. It’s sort of like the electronic version of Reese’s Peanut butter cups – two great ideas that work great together. Only you can’t cry “aw, you sunk my battleship!” But you can yell “I got one! Great kid, now don’t get cocky!”

Lego Star Wars is a phenomenally successful series of video games that not only captures the spirit and adventure of the epic sci fi movie saga, but also gives players more fun than violence. And now, they’re taking the same tongue in cheek adventure to the Indiana Jones saga, but adding a four player twist and some wii-style whip action. Cue John Williams theme, please.
