An R/C car with a first person perspective

RC Cam 2

This could become the best low tech driver simulator for kids. It’s a radio controlled race car with a built in wireless VGA camera on board. When the RC controller puts on the accompanying glasses/wireless receiver, driving the car from a first person perspective becomes possible.

But what’s really UBER cool is that the camera comes incorporated with a Visual Tracking System that allows the R/C car operator to turn their head from left to right or up and down and have the camera on the RC car mimmick the same moves in real time! This means that the driver isn’t limited by a static, locked down camera and can not only see what’s going on around the vehicle, but also see obstacles to avoid in the process.

Check out the cool video of it in action here:

The car kit comes with car and onboard wireless camera, receiver/goggle, controller, recharging interface, and a custom-fitted briefcase to carry it all. Wow. What a great toy to play with. Downside though is it’s obscene, early adopter price of $1100 USD! Still, even at that price the experience would be seriously worth it.

Available via RED5 in the UK.
