Speed Racer toys better than the movie, apparently
The reviews are streaming in for the Wachowski Brother’s block buster SPEED RACER and apparently, it ain’t good. Eye-Candy to be sure, but storywise, it may be a more sound investment to buy the cool Speed Racer toys and skip the popcorn. Among the merchandising tie-ins with McDonalds and Hot Wheels, are some pretty cool toys that include R/C cars, slot car racing sets, and more.
We talked about the cool Speed Racer Slot Car Racing Set from Carrera earlier in the week. But there’s plenty more where that came from including Mattel’s HOT WHEELS is the natural main contributor with their line of Speed Racer Deluxe Battle Vehicles, featuring a 3-inch-tall Speed and his trusty Mach 5 racer. Built in hard plastic and in stunning detail, the 1:24 scale Mach 5 features “jumpjacks” and saw-blade launchers. There’s also Speed’s transport van, the racer from his rival Racer X and a whole lot of other Speed Racer vehicles at the usual 1:64 Hot Wheels scale.
R/C fans can enjoy this mini Speed Racer/Racer X combo from Cincinnati U. Available at $10 each, the R/C minis are three inches long and work on dual-channel remote controls (completely with cool wheel control) for side-by-side racing. Each car takes a minute of charge time for three minutes of driving.
But the serious R/C racers (those who don’t build their own, that is) can also enjoy this stunning scale detailed R/C of the Mach 5 by Kyosho. The crash resistant, pre-painted polystyrene chassis has real rubber racing tires, and a custom electric engine that’ll actually get up to scale racing speeds, and accessories that will add more realism to the Mach 5, including a red vinyl interior,and LED headlights. The set also includes orange street cones and street markers so beginners can learn the inss and outs of R/C racing. Cost is $135.
