Kids can be pretty hard on toys. They leave em, drop em, break em, dunk em in water. So when Fisher Price had the idea to create a kid tough portable DVD player, the first thing that came to my mind was, I hope it’s “cheap.” Unfortunately, hovering around a $150 price tag, cheap isn’t in the picture – at least financially.
And at that price, one has to ask can this new DVD player take the abuse? According to Oh Gizmo, the new FP DVD player features a rubberized shell, shock & skip-proof technology and hand holds to help prevent young little hands from losing their grip on it. In addition, the player comes with a 3.2-inch LCD display and has a 2 hour battery life. Sadly, a screen that size only means that this player will show to an audience of one, unless the kids don’t mind banging their heads trying to see a movie.
But to make a DVD player for young kids makes sense though. Kids are rapidly becoming more and more tech saavy as our culture gets more tech obsessed. So, why not cash in on it by starting them young? But if FP is going to take the tack that kids want technology, why not create a flash based PMP instead? If the kids are techy, surely mom and dad would be as well and a lack of moving parts would only help when it comes to dropping it a hundred times.
