KungFu Panda goes Rockem Retro

Kung Fu Panda Rock Em

In what amounts to the coolest movie/toy tie-in this week, Mattel has released a Kung Fu Panda version of their classic game Rockem Sockem Robots. Instead of the blue and red robots beating the snot out of each other in an attempt to knock each other’s block off, players can now control Po and Tai Lung in the ring. The game pits our hero Po against his arch nemesis Tai Lung from the Dreamworks Animated movie KUNG FU PANDA. But this is more than just a movie-tie in overlay of an old classic. There’s actually a cool Kung Fu twist on the classic game.

The added Kung Fu element enables both Po and Tai lung to not only punch with the fury of Bruce Lee, but they can also kick as well, thereby adding more action in the ring. There’s plenty of moves and fun as players can relive fun moments from the movie as they battle Rockem Sockem style. But I tell you what’s missing from this. With every toy going hi-tech these days, it’s a shame that Mattel didn’t funnel some movie quotes and kung fu screams (just slightly out of synch, mind you) to amp up the action even more.

Cost of Rockem Sockem Kung Fu Panda ranges from $20-25 depending on where you get it (it’s $19.99 at Amazon.com) and is available now.
