It seems that the gang over at NERF are watching LEGO’s success with video gaming and have decided to see they can expand their line of cool foam firepower items into the digital world. Working in concert with Electronic Arts (EA), Nerf will be launching “Nerf N-Strike” for the Wii and producing an interesting line of Nerf/Wii controllers which can work with the video game but also shoot foam projectiles just like other Nerf firearms.

The add-on fits on top of standard Wii Controller to provide the digital elements of the game, but the Nerf gun can still shoot those foam darts at your competitors in the real world. The Nerf N. Strike game itself is like a virtual Nerf shooting gallery which enables users to rapid fire virtual foam to knock out robots that have invaded your virtual world. What’s really cool about the game though is that the foam shots actually arc and drop as they would in real life, so users have to compensate for when attempting to shoot down the cyborg invaders.

Cost for the add-on controller box is $14.99 ($15 in disquise) and comes with gun and three foam darts included. The game, however, is a little more pricey at $59.99.

But there’s tremendous upside in that the controller add-on could conceivably be added to any of the 25 NERF blasters available in the NERF arsenal. And that alone makes it a cool accessory to have for waging digital foam warfare.
