Dual Widescreen DS coming … it’s about time

You know what kept me from buying a DS? Postage stamp size LCD screens, that’s what. I hate em. Now the PSP – there’s a beautiful widescreen LCD. And now, it seems that Nintendo has seen the light on 16:9 for rumor has it a new DS is coming out with full widescreen capability on BOTH touchscreen LCDs. And you can bet that Steve Jobs thinks he’s responsible for it. After all, this picture (can made mockup) does look a tad iTouchy – but with a twin sister.

And there’s even speculation that this may be a complete upgrade to DS2 altogether. That would probably mean more powerful chips and upgraded graphics. But a dual wide touchscreen interface will certainly be the hallmark feature of new unit. The word on the street is that Nintendo knows the DS is a tad long in the tooth and so it’s scheduling a refresh for sometime in the spring of 2009. April or May from the looks of it. And with sales on the DS fading faster than Obama’s polling numbers after Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech, is it any wonder that an earlier launch for the new device may be in the offing?

I mean, come on. Christmas is coming. And Santa needs to get his orders in.
