Pocket Models … like YuGiOh, but with dice and ships
Kids who are reaching the age where strategy games become attractive, and who are obsessed with “a galaxy far, far away,” will love the strategy game known as Star Wars Pocket Models. The concept is pretty simple. Collect trading cards and put together card board space ships, roll some dice, take some damage, rule the galaxy.
Each pocket model comes with enough game pieces and strategy cards for a two player game. You punch out the tabbed pocket models, build them, and you’re ready to play.
See, the game is played on a three sector game pad (the funny thing was that when WizKids released the game, they rather forgot to include the game mats, so kids mad their own!). Users take turns, and during each turn, a player can do one of two things … play an objective card, or take an action – whether that be moving, combat, or strike. Roll the dice, add and subtract advantages and take damage. A pocket model takes a hit, players can place these cool little fire tabs on an area to depict damage. The more tabs, the more damage. Players win by destroying all of your opponent’s objectives or PocketModels.
The current Star Wars pocket model line includes the Star Wars PocketModels Base Set as well as several expansion sets including Order 66, Scum and Villany, The Clone Wars, and a special Ground assault set which takes the action down to a planet below.
The average cost of a pocket model sleeve is about $4.00, but the price goes up as users get bigger pocket models including Star Destroyers and Death Stars. And there’s also a Mega Pocket Model made out of styrene that takes the action to a massive scale.
And in addition to playing the games, kids can trade the models and cards to build their own custom fleets. The games cover the span of all six Star Wars films, as well as the new Clone Wars series. And there’s other pocket model games as well such as PIRATES!
Great stocking stuffer for the Clone Wars kid in your life.
