ST Figs

With the new JJ Abrams era about invade the galactic space of Star Trek franchise, a whole spate of Star Trek toys are poised to warp onto store shelves. Everything, from the trademark USS Enterprise to a new design communicator, to even the expected selection of action figures of the film franchise’s signature characters. Here’s a quick rundown on what’s out there:

NCC1701

The Enterprise – A new design which accentuates the Warp Nacelles makes the flagship of Starfleet look like a hot rod in space. And it’s sure to catch the eye of not only the Trek geeks who collect stuff just to collect it, but also kids who are experiencing the final frontier for the first time. Look for it to sell well and play hard – as the nacelles will sure break off as they did in the original toys. $30

STAF 2

The Action Figures
– Action figures include what is known as the “Troika,” of Kirk, Spock and McCoy – but there’s also the classic, elderly Spock (played in the film by Leonard Nimoy) and the movie’s Romulan Villan Nero. Other action figures are of Uhura, Scotty and Sulu. The figures come in three sizes including (3.75″, 6″, 12″) and come with removable utility belts, phasers, communicators and other accessories. Costs range from $7-$30.

The Communicator – It’s not as colorful or as “solid state” as the original black and gold mesh design, but the new communicator will sure be a must have item for kids who want to pretend they’re a member of the crew (hell, I used my mom’s compact when I wanted to). There’s also a toy phaser and TriCorder ($15 each), but who wouldn’t rather spend money on the original McCoy?

Bridge Sets

Bridge sets
– lastly, the toy line comes out with playsets of the Bridge and transporter sets that are compatible with the smaller 2.75” figures and let’s kids can relive and play out scenes from the movie. $25-30

There are sure to be more coming out as we get nearer to the film’s May release date, but so far, the toys look to go where most Trek toys have gone before.
