With the pending liquidation of KB Toys nationwide, the bankrupt toy retail merchant had placed a deadline on when KB Toys gift cards could be used. Effective Jan. 12, 2009, any outstanding, unredeemed gift card would be null and void as KB Toys winds down its operation. So, what’s KBs number one competition to do? Why honor the cards, of course. Sort of.
Customers who come into Toys R Us before January 31st with a KB Toys gift card will receive a discount of 15% on a single toy item.
“We’re pleased to offer KB Toys shoppers this special savings opportunity,” said Greg Ahearn, senior vice president of marketing and e-commerce for Toys “R” Us, “We also hope to familiarize KB Toys customers with the advantages of shopping at Toys ‘R’ Us, including our expert customer service and Rewards‘R’Us program, which offers added incentives for loyal customers to shop and save on our expansive selection of toys, games and electronics.”
Now, granted, that’s going to be less than what an average toy gift card holds, but it’s better than nothing.
