Star Trek. It’s going to be the hottest picture of the summer. And Mattel is betting that this multi generational Sci Fi epic will not only create new fans of the Paramount tent pole movie series, but rekindle the the interest for all things from the 60s in existing fans. And since it’s celebrating their 40th birthday, that means Hot Wheels, too. And as such, perhaps for the first time in memory, Hot Wheels is releasing scale models from the classic 60s television series, turned motion picture franchise.
And since Star Trek is undergoing a kind of metamorphosis, or reset, as they say in showbiz, Hot Wheels is betting that fans, old and new alike, will be introduced to the cool world of Hot Wheels with this collection of 1:50 scale ships from both the TV series and movies.
The collection includes:
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A
- USS Reliant NCC-1864
- USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D
- USS Enterprise NCC-1701 (New Movie)
- Klingon Bird of Prey
And although it’s unfortunate that it doesn’t include the original Enterprise design, the NCC 1701 from new movie is sure to remind us old foggies of when Kirk, Spock and McCoy went where no man has gone before.
Star Trek warps into theaters May 8th with Hot Wheels coming out any time now.
