Titan water rocket makes a giant leap for summer fun

Titan Rocket

Rocketry is one of those hobbies that is so for kids, but most parents won’t let them play along because it’s dangerous. But what most parents don’t know is that there’s rockets that are powered by water pressure that can give the kids the same kind of performance and still be safe. And the Titan Blast Inflatable Rocket delivers just as much bang for the buck as the more dangerous solid-fuel varieties. And it’s very cool to boot.

The Titan Blast, once inflated, stands nearly seven feet tall. This is reminiscent of the Atlas rocket from the 60s, which was dubbed the flying gasbag because it would collapse when not pressurized with fuel. The reason the Titan Blat needs to be inflatable is to be light enough to lift off with water pressure. Kids simply fill partially with water and then pump up the rocket with a bicycle or basketball pump. Then it’s a simple countdown to release the hounds.

Liftoff comes as the pressurized water powers out of the four “high performance” engine nozzles and propels the rocket to about 100 feet in altitude. And the multiple streams of water vapor flowing out of the nozzles, has the added benefit of simulating the rocket exhaust. And the best part is, it’s reusable. Very cool.

Cost is about $50 at Walmart. Some assembly required.
