Blockbuster movie tie ins, educational toys, and just about anything else to get kids to say “Mom, let’s have dinner there tonight!” That’s the allure of the kids meal toy. And for May, here’s a round up of the toys that are at your kids favorite fast food joint:
Carl’s Jr. Tale of Desperaux. Based on the hit Universal film about a mouse who isn’t afraid of anything, these Carl’s Cool Kids toys include Soup Store Door Hangar, Desperaux’s Reading Adventure, Desperaux Moust Trap and Ratworld 3D maze challenge. Coming up, Dinosaur King based on the kit 4 Kids TV series.
Burger King – Star Trek. BK Kids meals have 16 toys based on the blockbuster Paramount summer movie STAR TREK. Very similar in concept to BKs Star Wars toys, they include oversized characters of Kirk, Spock and McCoy, ships like the USS Enterprise and Klingon Bird of Prey, and communicators and tricorders. 4 a week for the month of May. Then, look for toys based on Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and G.I. Joe.
Mc Donalds – Kidz Bop CDs are currently the Happy Meal toy du jour, but coming are Night at the Museum 2 toys. Details sketchy at press time, but I’d expect a flying machine, dinosaur, and maybe even an Easter Island idol.
Taco Bell – Marvel Kids Comics featuring the Fantastic Four, Captain America, the Avengers and the Mighty Thor. Now that’s what I call a cool toy promotion! Get the kids into comics!
Del Taco – Based on the popular kids book series “Edgar & Ellen,” Del Taco’s kids toys feature door hangars, puzzles and concentration games.
Subway – Little League baseball toys which aren’t really toys, per se, but has everything you’d need to really enjoy a game including sunglasses, sports bottle, cheer towel, bag to carry it in and more.
Wendys – World Girl toys …based on the popular PBS TV show. Toys include “Captain Huggy Spinner,” World Girl Audio Book on CD, World Girl spinner and various games.
In the Midwest, SONIC fans have Wacky Pack toys which are currently Magna Gears, which can create a kind of Rube Goldberg contraption, with Bug Spy toys coming that will teach kids about the most populace residents on the planet … insects!
Arbys – Enviro Gear which includes a cool set of binoculars and a periscope which allows kids to see around walls. Soon – “See through Spinners.”
Whataburger has Backyard games as part of their WhataPals kids meals. These include paddle balls, shuffle board, an inflatable football, and bubble wands.
KFC Laptop Meal – lamest of all … you get the cardboard box the food comes in!

I saw a kids meal toy that had the queen from Alice in Wonderland pictured on the top and it was a round button about 3 or 4 inches across. When depressed, it said “Off with their heads!”. Do you know which company has that toy and if it’s a current one or if it is old. Thank you.
