Maker of Guitar Hero tells Sony to drop Playstation prices ... or else
Activision CEO Bobby Kotnick believes that Sony’s price structure for b oth the PLaystation Portable and the PS3 is hurting his bottom line. So it comes as no surprise the he’s pushing Sony to drop the price of the game platforms by 20011 or Activision will simply stop developing games for them.
The maker of Guitar Hero claims they paid over a half billion dollars in royalties to SONY last year and that games sales for the Playstation platforms have dropped since the PS3 was introduced. Kotnick believes this is due to the price of the platform which makes it unreasonable for the casual gamer to invest in.
Additionally, both the XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii are far more affordable t to develop games for, much less cheaper to pay royalties on since more games are sold for those platforms.
But with over 23 million PS3 consoles being sold since it’s release, will Activision make good on their bluff? They may not have to since a mere threat may give new gamers pause as to decide which platform to buy. Then again, with the PS3 being the most popular Blu-ray DVD player on the market, Sony may not care.
Only time will tell who blinks first.
