The Swimmable Manta Ray is a great summertime R/C toy for the pool

The Swim Along Manta Ray may be the first swimmable R/C sub which will not only get kids outdoors and poolside, but enable them to do tricks while they swim with it. The R/C Manta Ray controls up to 6 feet away and the remote stays waterproof up to 3 feet down.

The remote has LED panels which are easy to see underwater, can be charged in about 4 hours for a half hour of underwater operation. But since the rechargable battery is sold separately (that stinks), the Swimmable Manta Ray can also be powered by AA batteries, while the remote uses a standard 9 volt battery.

The Swimmable Manta Ray retails for about $120 at Hammacher.

Seems like an awesome concept for a r/c, but with a range of a whopping 6 feet and a “crush depth” (pardon the submarine pun) of 3 feet, the usability of this toy seems to be limited to the “Why bother?” category.
