Microsoft knows how successful price cuts can be for sales.
It’s no secret that Sony has caught the world’s attention by dropping not only the PS3′s weight, but also it’s price. Well, Microsoft has been paying attention and has announced a price cut in response. And it’s epic.
The price of the XBox 360 Elite has been dropped to $299, while the XBox 360 Pro drops to $249 until it sells out of inventory as it’s being discontinued as a mid level platform.
But Redmond claims that the price break was a long time coming and the timing was purely coincidental. And considering that with a price cut in September, boosted sales by 3/4s, Microsoft has benefitted in the past, so that indicates a future plan. But it can equally indicate that Microsoft knows that Sony will enjoy a potential windfall by dropping prices, and when multiplied by adding a slimmer version of the PS3 to the mix, they may have just had no choice but to cut prices to stay competitive.
So, the big question still out there is this … with Playstation dropping it’s price and XBox following suit, serendipitously, what will Nintendo do with the Wii?
