Spaceball is a great workout and a real fun game.
When I was in college, my friends and I had a regular Wednesday night tournament of Gordon’s Hi-Ball at the local Golf N Stuff. It was a grand game which combined the elements of basketball and trampoline. We couldn’t get enough of it. Unfortunately, as is always the case with something extremely cool, someone gets hurt and as a result, lawsuits forced Gordon’s Hi-Ball to disappear as the spectre of being unsafe took hold. But it looks like the spirit of that grand, bouncy game, has been recaptured in Spaceball Trampoline.
Like Gordon’s Hi-Ball, Spaceball Trampoline involves each player bouncing around in their own chamber trying to both score, and prevent scoring at the same time. The difference being that all one has to do in Spaceball is to shoot the ball through the tunnel that sits between the two competitors and past the defender who’s trying to block any attempt. Whereas, in Hi-Ball, there is a goal one each end that’s divided by a very high wall. But it still works on the same principles and makes for a fantastic workout. In fact, Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter calls it the best conditioning exercise for space travel there is.
Made of galvanized steel frame and sturdy polpropylene treated netting. The foldable trampoline cage can support two players weighing up to 200 lbs. each.
Available at Hammacher for $700. Which, considering gym membership fees these days, is a bargain.

In high school we used to count the days, hours, and minutes till the weekend so that we could go hang out at the golf place in town where we waited in line to play Hi-Ball! I loved that game!
