This Transformer may be the most detailed ever but it’s still a toy

I remember when Transformers first came out in the 80s. They were so intricate, so difficult, I used to joke one had to have an engineering degree to play with them. That was long before the Michael Bey blockbusters, or the Saturday morning cartoons. In fact, the movies and alike are all based on those original Japanese toys.

But when a fan of Transformers takes a Hasbro toy an ann insane level of detail, the question is, can you still call them toys? Or do they become engineering works of art?

This detailed model of Optimus Prime, complete with blue flamed paintjob, is based on the Hasbro toy. Only it has been taken apart by Modder Crefigz and detailed out to look like the real McCoy. He put a ball joint in the neck for better articulation, custom rear view mirrors for more realism, and a chrome paintjob that makes plastic look like steel.

Not only is it detailed, but the modder managed to make plastic look like steel.

And it’s a one of a kind, too. It’s for bid at eBay, but the bid is currently hovering around $1500 (with $40 shipping!). Now that you’ve picked yourself up off the floor, you can always satisfy yourself with the original Hasbro figure for a paltry $45.
