Some kids build legos, some play with Legos. Some adults build legos (and some at a nice profit) and some, make dioramas. Check out this homage to Star Wars Battle of Hoth from Episode 5:

Flickr Member “Avanaut,” wanted to create a realistic looking Lego Diorama which depicts the white out snow conditions on the planet Hoth and how it wreaks havoc on man and equipment. And the results of quite impressive. But how’d he do it? We’ll let him tell you:

“Photographing “snow” in this scale is difficult, and to amp up the challenge I wanted it to fly around. The answer was not to use faster shutter speed but to slow the snow down.

I had a wacky idea to submerge everything in water, it slows down everything that moves. The water also causes light to reflect from solid surfaces in a way that sometimes helps hiding the miniature scale.”

What great out of the box thinking since the Lego’s are made of hard plastic and won’t be damaged by water, it really opens up possibilities for miniature Lego photography. And it’s fun to play with, too!
