Couple a Wii controller with a strap on Pico Projector and what do you have? About as realistic a first person shooter game can get. The weak link in a first person shooter game like Modern Warfare 2 is that the screen is static. It gives the illusion of movement, sure. But you’re not really moving, so the realistic experience always has to come with a certain degree of suspension of disbelief. But thanks to Microvision’s out of the box thinking, that degree has been lowered even more.

Strapping a Pico Projector onto a Wii style game controller (that looks like a rifle, of course), players can actually walk around and bring the screen image wherever they go. This makes the game more a simulation and brings us a step close to the holodeck idea from Star Trek.
Now granted, the idea is just in the prototype stage right now and the quality is only going to be as good as the lighting conditions (not to mention game time limited by the Projector’s battery time), but it certainly shows promise.

Microvision is going to be showing off their PicoGun prototype this weekend at the Intel Extreme Master’s PC Gaming Tournament in Canada this weekend. And you can bet that it’ll be a sure fire hit at CES next month.
