Robotic Pugelists are a 21st century take on a classic toy.

In the new millennium, everything is digital, wireless, virtual or all three. Fans of Rockem Sockem Robots have been hoping for years for a digital upgrade which would take the classic toy out of the ring and give them more functions than simply punch punch, crank! Sadly, Milton Bradley doesn’t see the need, so Hammacher comes to the rescue with Motion Mimicking Robotic Pugilists.

Using wireless controllers Wii style, players can operate both the yellow and blue robot and put them in a robotic battle of doom. But instead of a cranking head that pops up with the right pop on the chin, the robots have LED scoreboards embedded in their chest which keep track of points during the battle. Once the robot gets 4 solid hits against him, he gets a ten count – game over. In addition, the robotic fighters can move around, thereby giving them the ability to dodge and weave somewhat.

Some may like the classic ring and uppercutting zen like motion’s of Rock’em Sock’em Robots, but the Motion Mimicking Robotic Puglists give fighters a little more freedom to inject their own style into it (at least as far as the hard plastic design allows).

Cost is about $80.
