Now granted, there are probably much better Star Wars video games on the market. The Force Unleashed alone has changed the way graphics are made in video games for ultra realism. And with the Nintendo Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360, heavy hitting video games are edging closer to reality.

But are you going to want to take your PS3 on the road with you to keep kids occupied while on vacation? Doubtful. So, if you’re kids love Star Wars, why not get Star Wars Republic Squadron? It doesn’t need a console and will keep your kids occupied until they destroy the Death Star. And maybe even beyond.

Now granted, the graphics are very late 80s, early 90s. But so what? The selling point here (other than it’s very affordable $30 pricetag) is that it’s one of those plug and play game controllers which connect directly to a TV set. That means if you’ve got a DVD player built into your minivan, your kids can attack the Death Star.

If you’re on the road and staying over night in a hotel, your kids can attack the Death Star. If you’re stuck in rush hour … you guessed it. So, just about anywhere you go, your kids are going to have a great time being Luke Skywalker in an X-Wing or reliving that great Tie Fighter battle from the guns on the Millenium Falcon. And because it’s completely motion controlled, the kids will get totally into the action while you don’t get that never ending drone of “are we there yet?!”
