Radio controlled cars are fun from a racing toy point of view. But sometimes, playing with toys involves a little … well, destruction!

Okay, not really, but Battle Machines equips r/c cars with a low power laser weapon and infrared sensor so players can face off against each other in a motorized game of shoot or be shot.

If you shoot first, you disable your opponent.

The concept is fairly simple. You shoot your opponent first, otherwise your car gets hit and is disabled for a set period of time. This is like a 20th century version of chicken, without destroying your R/C cars in the process.

Cars come in pairs and consist of three kinds, a `69 Camaro, ’06 Mustang and a ’99 Silverado Dooley. Cost is about $80 for the set and they’ll be due out this summer. Hopefully, these will catch on, because it could be a real gas to equip boats, tanks and even R/C planes with the same technology. Dog fighting anyone?
