The Swim Along Manta Ray may be the world's first underwater R/C toy

As a kid, I remember my favorite show was Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, mostly because of the Flying Sub which looked like a manta ray and literally flew out of the water to land like an airplane. I always wanted a toy like that. Well, the Swim Along Manta Ray isn’t going to fly you from Atlantis to D.C., but kids can have a great time remotely piloting it in their swimming pool this summer.

Hydrodynamically shaped to look like a manta ray, the Swim Along Manta Ray can submerge to a maximum depth of 8 feet and swim, turn, roll, as far as 6 feet away from it’s water proof R/C controller. Kids can make steep powered dives to the bottom of the pool thanks to it’s twin powered, independently operated propeller thrusters. This allows for tight turns, barrel rolls, loops, just about anything an R/C airplane can do, but under water. Cool video here.

Rechargeable batteries power the Swim Along Manta Ray for up to a half an hour on a single charge, and it can also take four AA batteries. Made of PVC and ABS plastic over a stainless steel frame.

On sale right now at Hammacher for $80.
