From the Wii to this Thomas the Tank Engine Train set, Toys R Us has a great list of toys to help Autistic kids.
It’s a frightening statistic that 1 in 100 kids will be afflicted with autism. But that makes it all the more critical that kids with this condition have toys that can help them cope and learn critical behavior and social skills. Thanks to Toys R Us, parents have a list of 10 toys which can help.
“There are a lot of toys out there, where kids can get over stimulated,” says Dawn Itzkowitz of Autism Speaks, “Where they can get repetitive behavior, which are not always great and that’s what a lot of children with autism focus on.”
As such, Toys R Us has joined forces to help autistic kids with such issues as sensory issues, fine motor issues, and gross motor.” The toys include, Little Tikes Easy Score Basketball Set, Little People Noah’s Ark Playset, Crayola’s Magnetic Double Easel, Mega Blocks, Moon Sand, Rock n Rollin’ Piano, Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway, the Nintendo Wii, Play Doh, and Melissa and Doug’s Wooden Sandwich Making Kit.
What’s great about this list is that there’s many games that brothers and sisters and moms and dads can interact with their special needs kids and learn more about them as well.
So a tip of the hat to Toys R Us for giving autistic kids, and their families, tools to cope and toys to play.
