A scale race track made out of cardboard for a home made video game experience.
Remarkably old school and yet, using modern techniques, this video game works in the real world. Using wireless cameras, arduino controllers, a cardboard built race track and an RC car, these German gaming fans kicked up the reality quotient by creating their own gaming interface that works on a scale real world track (made out of cardboard, even).
Using an old arcade cabinet to drive in (that rocks left and right in the turns, mind you), the users were able to watch the CRT television screen that picked up the wireless camera signal. and operate the RC car via a wireless arduino controller. The result is a video game that has the same feel as it’s CGI doppleganger – i.e., you crash a lot – but it also feels like it’s real.

I mean, imagine the possibilities … not only car racing, but tank battles, dogfights (alright, so you’d have to ditch the cardboard), an interactive Buzz Lightyear armed to the teeth to do some Halo … the skies the limit! And I SO want to build one!
