Marvel Handful of Heroes
Some of my favoriate charactrers in Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story is Sarge and the Green Army men. I remember playing with them as a kid and couldn’t get enough of the battlefield fantasy. But had I the option of picking up Marvel’s Handful of Heroes, it would’ve been a different fantasy in the back yard … downright comic.
It’s downright genius. Starting last fall, Hasbro and Marvel created a line of plastic super heroes and villians that mirror the Green Army Man vibe, but put it square into the Super Hero meme. There are over 120 different figures in each of the first two waves, with different poses and colors to collect. And there’s just about every Hero and Villian from the mind of Stan Lee there. Wolverine, Spiderman, Hulk, Captain America, Doc Ock, Dr. Doom, Mandarin, Iron Man (in several mark suits) and more. All so that kids can pretend and do battle of good versus evil.
The figures are made in mono-colored hard plastic, but with different color schemes making for 40 poses and 120 total in each wave. Each blister pack comes with 8 figures with one being hidden and “super secret.” There’s also a battle mat included to set the scene.
You gotta love it. But then again, at $7 for 8 small figures? Not so much. I’d much rather have a random bucked of 40 for $10 or so.
