Yeah, I’m saying this ping pong table is pretty much nuts.
Each player gets their own separate flower pedal shaped table which measures 24″ long x 18″ wide. On top of that, each table tapers to a round point in the front; the back edge is pitched 10ยบ, causing balls to bounce up towards a player. This is to assure that each volley is filled with exciting attempts to dive and hit the ball back, as well as bounces and caroms that require quick reflexes to return the shot.
As if that wasn’t enough, each table comes with a hole in the center which gives a point to a player hitting a ball into the center hole of an opponent’s table. Tables are made of sturdy fiberboard and powder-coated steel construction; table legs fold for storage. The $250 set (available at Hammacher Schlemmer) Includes four tables, four foam-padded wooden paddles, and four balls. It’s just plain nutty, if you ask me.
Frankly, I prefer the Wizard Table Tennis game called “12 Ball,” featured in the Disney Channel comedy “Wizards of Waverly Place.” With that one, there is an asterix shaped ping pong table and each player gets two paddles. As the game goes on, a feeder adds a ball to the volley with a maximum of 12 balls to be played at once. The idea being to get 20 balls past your opponent to eliminate them. Wild to be sure, but a lot more interesting, I think!
But meantime, why spend another $250 for this game when a regular ping pong table allows for doubles at half the price?
