Toys worth a fortune if you have them …

by James

When I moved from Texas to California, my entire collection of football and baseball cards was lost in transit. It drives me nuts if I take any time at all pondering just how much of my retirement was lost during that week, years back. But all is not lost. There may be a few classic toys in my son’s old toybox which I handed down which could be worth a bunch. I have to cross check against this list to see …

1.Teddy Ruxpin. Known as the first interactive toy, this fuzzy bear came with cassettes that allowed it to interact with the child it was playing with. You can get it on eBay for about $450.

2. Barney the Dinosaur, purple plush. I love you, you love me … Simultaneously the most adorable and most annoying dinosaur on PBS. But also worth a lot … about $500.

3. Sega Genesis Console. Now according to this list, that mint condition Sega Genesis is worth almost $2,000. But I’m betting that’s MIB and never been played. If you’ve got one gathering dust behind your XBox, it’s probably worth less than the dust itself.

There are plenty of others, 27 total, ranging from Care Bears to GI Joe’s to Stretch Armstrongs on this list by BuzzFeed (especially the Japanese Rare Pokemon card worth $15,000!). And most of them are from the 80s and 90s. So start digging into your toy closest and cash out!
