Toys R Us Sees Holiday Trends for 2012
Toys R Us has seen trends in toys that will shape their holiday sales strategy for 2012. The trends show customers wanting to buy toys like kid-friendly tablets, “retro” toys from the ’80s, and toys with fun light-up features.
“It’s no secret that technology has had a growing influence in toy innovation, but this year we’re also seeing a strong statement of traditional toys that inspire imaginative play and curiosity among kids and nostalgia among parents,” said Lisa Harnisch, Senior Vice President, General Merchandising Manager, Toys“R”Us, U.S. “After reviewing the thousands of new toy introductions in our stores worldwide and analyzing data gathered by our team of merchants, we’re pleased to share our unique insights into the toy themes that will excite and delight kids this holiday season.”
Frankly, I think with the price of tablets that have gone down, I think that parents would be well served to think about getting them a nice tablet like the LeapFrog tablet we saw the other day. Older kids can enjoy a cheap Kindle Fire for $159. Those are nice high tech toys that can be used not only for game play, but also for learning.
But there’s always LEGOs. And with Teenage Mutal Ninja Turtles and the DC/Marvel titles out there, there’s always some great bricks out there to enjoy.
