Mattel’s new action figure collection near infinite …

Mattel DC 1

Mattel has created a new round of DC comics super hero action figures that kids are sure to love … especially if they’re into comics. The figures include: Wonder Woman, Hawk Wingman, Gordon in Swat gear, Sinestro, Atom (classic costume), Blue and Gray Batman (old school), Crisis/70’s Supergirl, Black and Silver Superman Prime, Alex Luthor.

While no one will probably care about Alex Luthor or even have a clue who “Omac” is, the old school Detective comics Batman and classic Wonder Woman make this a pretty cool collection of figs to consider. And even the disco 70s Supergirl is rather kitchy and could appeal to girls who don’t particularly want Barbie as a role model.

Star Wars Galactic Heroes in 2009

Galactic 2009

The 5th wave of Galactic Heroes is, appropriately, focusing on what is arguably the best installment of the Star Wars Epic – the Empire Strikes Back. The Hoth series includes the Snowspeeder from the failed rebellion defense of Hoth with two squat pilots (one being Luke wielding a light saber) and an imperial probe droid.

Other Galactic Heroes waves for the New Year include a Jedi Star Fighter from the prequel trilogy in bold red, as well as Storm Troopers riding a DewBack dino shooting it out with Han and Chewie. There’s also a wave that depicts the rescue of Han from Jabba the Hut, Darth Vader flying his bent wing TIE fighter, Luke’s crashing onto Degobah to begin his training, and figures that cover just about every major character in the 6 movie epic series. Also in the wave is the popular X-Wing fighter with Luke at the helm and Obi Wan Kenobi brandishing a blaster? There’s also a square head droid which seems to replace R2 as the XWing’s navigator. George Lucas must’ve been on vacation in Hawaii the day this concept came to the office for approval as it’s rather odd.

Each figure stands approximately 2-inches tall and is meant for young Jedi Padawans aged 3-7. You gotta get em young.

princess castle

Disney is going ninety miles and hour with their marketing of the Disney Princesses and it’s simply genius. You go to Disneyland and you’ll see dozens of little girls walking around in their favorite princess costumes like Main Street was their own personal fiefdom. And it’s been so successful as a brand, that movies, toys and a host of other merchandise are built completely around Disney Princesses. As such, why not get your little Princess her own fiefdom with the Disney Princess Enchanted Tales Deluxe Castle?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

GH1

Photographs of upcoming box sets of Hasbros “Galactic Heroes” have been leaked to the gang over at Rebel Scum, depicting scenes from episodes 2 and 4 of the Star Wars epic. The scenes depicted included Escape from Mos Eisley which will include figures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewie, two storm troopers and a desert dewback to ride upon.

“Han and Chewie lead Luke and their passengers to the Millennium Falcon, unaware that Garindan has snitched on them. Sandtroopers on foot and riding a dewback head for the docking bay to stop them.”

Hasbro toys around with Adventure Heros line

Indy Adventure Heros

It’s kinda tough to get kids into action blockbusters like Indiana Jones and Star Wars. Yeah right. More likely, it’s kinda tough to get parents to swing cold hard cash for toys based on movies which, admittedly are a tad violent. So, Hasbro has softened these action toys with a new line of Adventure Heroes, specifically designed for smaller kids who may enjoy the action, but don’t get the violence, just yet.

Originally launched with Star Wars as Galactic Heroes, Hasbro expanded the line with the eye towards the 4th blockbuster in the Indiana Jones Trilogy – Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Now, they’re going back to the classic trilogy with this set from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The Pack, second in the series, includes our heroes Indy and Henry Jones, plus the love interest turned bad Else, and the a set of Nazi bad guys. There’s even the grail knight who warns not to take the grail past the seal. As looking as if they were based on a Saturday morning TV serial, rather than a series of PG13 adventure epics. And that’s what make them fun as these toys will make fans of these kids even before they know what a Lost Arc is.

Recreate Springfield with these cool Simpson characters

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Simpsons 1

Matt Groening has created yet another cool Simpsons toy set with these vinyl Springfield characters. The characters are about 3” tall and sell for about $8.00 each. And as cool as they are, there is a problem that makes me wish to state unequivocally that you shouldn’t buy them. And that’s the fact that Kidrobot, the manufacturer of these toys, are selling them in blind assortment boxes to make it next to impossible to collect the entire 24 figure set without layout a boatload for duplicates and praying to the gods you don’t break the bank before getting them all.

Kung Fu Boys are a kick … and punch

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Kung Fu Boys

They’re silly. They’re funny. And you know what? They demonstrate proper martial arts technique. Seriously. These Kung Fu Boys (KANFUBOI) punch and kick and scream “KiA!” when turned on and left on your desk. But the really cool part is that with a special sound sensor, that enables them to “pounce” on unsuspecting intruders who happen to arrive at your desk and start looking around. Okay, so they don’t literarily pounce, but they scream out loud and offer a few punches and kicks for good measure. That’ll certainly cause any intruder to at least jump and draw attention to themselves.

Available in Japan for $18 each.

Dark Knight Toys have amazing detail

Tumbler 1

This Batman Toy Tumbler is one of the most detailed toys you’ll see out there. It’s also one of the most expensive. At 1/6 scale with Batman himself being a foot tall, this Bat Tumbler from Hot Toys is amazing. It comes with working light up headlights, a cockpit that opens by slidingup and down, and deployable breaking flaps. It weighs in at a hefty 28 pounds, which probably explains the stiff cost of $589 … shipping overseas for something like this just ain’t cheap. Too bad it isn’t an R/C as well.
