The Marines have been collecting Toys for Tots since 1947. Semper Fi!

And it’s grown far beyond and extra curricular activity for off duty Marines. In 1995, the Secretary of Defense approved making the annual Toys for Tots drive an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve. Over the last 62 years, the US Marine Corps Reserve have distributed over 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children and the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation has added to the toy collections by purchasing nearly a half billion dollars in toys to insure that no child gets left behind at Christmas.

And this year, as with any year, the campaign needs your help. You know the mission – pick up an unwrapped toy for a boy or girl and look for one of those dashing jarheads sitting next to a collection box near the entrance to the store. From the 1950s onwards girls were encouraged to hone their zombie slaughtering skills in preparation for the inevitable apocalypse. Though young ladies dispose of the undead with ease today, toys such as Mattel’s 1962 ‘Zombie Attack Barbie’ were instrumental in helping to habituate girls to a new social norm where zombie disposal would become a very necessary life skill.

Now a collectors item ‘Zombie Attack Barbie’ played a salient role in ensuring the survival of countless young girls who grew up ready and willing to slaughter the zombie menace. This much loved toy still holds fond memories for so many of the lovely ladies from our Zombie Clearance Squads today.

Now I’m pretty safe in assuming this is an online joke, but Zombies are in now as the undead flavor of the month. And with popular TV Shows like the Walking Dead, who doesn’t want to have a little imaginary zombie play at home? Especially when you can take out your 50 year old boyfriend KEN, who apparently recently turned!

The spokesperson for National Princess Week is Julie Andrews – who played Mary Poppins, in the Disney film. And, although Ms. Andrews was never cast as a princess, she did play the Queen of Genovia in the “Princess Diaries,” which will also be celebrating it’s tenth anniversary as part of of the promotion. That, coupled with the fact that she’s “practically perfect in every way,” and you have the ideal spokesman for National Princess Week.

As part of National Princess Week, Target and Disney will be offering great deals on Disney Princess’ merchandise featuring princess characters such as Ariel, Cinderella and Snow White. Merchandising will include clothing and costumes, toys, books, CDs and DVDs, personal care items, and more. Additionally, Little Brown Books will be launching a new Disney novel series for girls called ““The Very Fairy Princess,” which was co-written by Julie Andrews’ and her own princess, Emma Walton Hamilton.

Jakks Pacific, Inc., in association with Original Appalachian Artworks Inc., have announced the Connecting Generations for their Fashionality line of new Cabbage Patch Kids. There’s a new multi-cultural selection of toys and, like the original, kids can “adopt” their favorite and even create their own Cabbage Patch family tree. Each kid stands 14 inches tall with silky hair and one of 12 different personalities including “prepsters,” “skateboarders,” “girly girls,” and “artsy” types. In addition to their adoption papers, each Cabbage Patch Dolls have a unique and birth certificate. And with each purchase comes a download code for a Cabbage Patch Kids Video called “The New Kid.” Cost is $34.99, ages 3 and up.

It would’ve been a good idea … if the iPad had been invented in 1995. But with more parents saying they buy tablets because of their kids, we’re starting to wonder just how well these faux computers – which are just over glorified calculators, will be selling from here on out. Even with 30 “touch screen” activities, eight different themes, and a QWERTY keyboard, let’s face it, kids who have an iPod/iPhone or iPad in the home will be pretty bored with this in a New York minute. Especially considering Oregon Scientific’s hefty $49.95 price tag. For that price, users can pay a few hundred bucks more and get a real Android capable tablet. Sure, it’ll be a cheap one, but prices are coming down and CT thinks that these days, kids are just way too sophisticated to settle for a lame imitation of the real thing, no matter if it has a fashionable and sporty pink paint job.

Save your money and pick up the Barnes and Noble NOOKColor instead. Then you’ll have an eBook reader and a real Android tablet. We’re betting that’s what Computer Engineer Barbie would do.

There’s nothing really special about the design of these dolls. They’re just your basic little girl with sneakers and blond curls (although they’re described as “deadlocks.”). But the makers of the Keda Plush, pAlush workshop, describe her as having a positive attitude. The dolls stand about 9″ tall and come in two different outfits and hair styles.
