It’s been awhile since the Golden Arches took us to a galaxy far, far away. But with Season 4 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars coming soon, Ronald McDonald is gearing up with a sweet collection of Happy Meal Toys to celebrate.

Judging from the looks of things, we have the complete selection of light sabers from ObiWan Kenobi’s to Anakin’s and even Mace Windu’s purple light saber. Then there’s Count Dooku’s representing the Dark Side. Cool extras for the light sabers include Anakin’s blue saber lighting up, ObiWan’s green saber with sound effects, Windu’s purple saber is extendable, and Dooku’s sports an eerie blood red light as well.

There’s also what looks to be a dancing C3P0, and an rather oversized R2D2. Then Yoda using the force. Finally, vehicles include the Republic’s ATTE and Y-Wing fighter, and the CIS Droid Fighter. Sounds also eminate from the YWing, a red glowing light from the droid fighter, Yoda lifts a rock and the ATTE has articulating arms.

The toys have already been released at McDonald’s in Turkey, of all things. So we have to hope that we’ll see them here before summer’s end.

From what I gather from the trailer, Lightning McQueen, Mater and the gang are recruited by a British spy car (aptly performed by Michael Caine) for a secret international mission to Japan. There’s a lot of racing, flaring lights and zingy one liners and it looks like this may be Mater’s story …

Why so serious, Ronald?

As you may have noticed, the Golden Arches has been catching a lot of heat lately over the tempting and high fat based meals they serve to kids who beg parents for them because of the toy that’s included.
Organizations like Center for Science in the Public Interest (aka the Food Nazi’s) have a hair up their collective arses over the fact that going to McDonalds is fun. They wants to sue the mega fast food chain claiming that the evil Ronald McDonald is using toys to lure kids in and is the equivalent to “the stranger in the playground handing out candy to children.” Oh puhlease.

The Food Nazi’s also say that the Golden Arches use “deceptive ad campaigns” to “undermind parental authority to induce kids to prefer foods that may harm their health.

Forget about the fact that Happy Meal toys can come with healthier alternatives of apple slices, salads, and milk and juice. And kids can embrace those healthier options. My son routinely chooses a salad instead of fries (especially since he knows he can bumb a few off his old man).
And besides, THIS. IS. MCDONALDS. You aren’t supposed to eat there every day and if parents are sending their kids to eat with Ronald more than once a week or even a month, it speaks more to their irrsonspibility than any greedy corporation “undermining parental authority.” Parents can do that all by themselves.
Enough Soapboxing. Did you know that before you could get Star Wars toys in a Happy Meal Box Ronald offered the “Fun meal?” The Fun Meal, which I grew up on, had the same food but offered cut out illustrations for kids to assemble and play with. There are also activities like finding hidden objects in cool scene settings. Then George Lucas came along with a little thing known as Star Wars and in 1978, the Happy Meal Toy was born.

Maybe George should be prosecuted as an accessory after the fact.

With apologies for missing the Last Airbender Happy Meal Toys (ComiCon got in the way, sorry), CT is fresh on the heals of the next uber cool kids meal toys from the Golden Arches – MARVEL HEROES. But hey, consider yourself lucky, that also means I missed the embarrassing Twilight Toys and now Cats and Dogs from Burger King (shame city). Anyway, here’s to all things Marvel …

Favorite Marvel characters enshrined into Happy Meal history include the Silver Surfer, Captain America, Hulk, Spiderman, Wolverine, Thing and Johnny Storm from Fantastic Four, and IronMan. And although they just look like your typical static action figure, these heros are ripe with action. Thing screams his iconic “It’s clobberin’ time” tag line while Captain America actually throws his cool shield. Spiderman can crawl up metal surfaces, while Iron Man “flies” along the ground after being pulled back and let go. Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch) glows when turned on, and Hulk actually slams his fists together. Unfortunately, Silver Surfer is the only one who doesn’t do much other than detach from his surf board. Maybe for hanging 5 perhaps?

For Girls, Ronald McDonald is offering Littlest PetShop toys whiuch include cuddly little pet toys in matching baskets.

And after the Marvel universe, DC gets a shot with BATMAN toys while girls get Madame Alexander doll miniatures.

Your average Hot Wheel racer costs about a buck. Why not just include a real Hot Wheel in thv Happy Meal rather than a separately designed and cheaper looking lookalike?

Now granted, girls aren’t going to get a full size Batbie with a cheeseburger meal, but their action figure size toys actually look pretty trick. The Hot Wheels, on the other hand, are knock offs with a lhit logo plain and simple.

Come on, Ronald, give kids the real McCoy!

Are these Iron Man toys from Burger King sexist?

And while we’re feeling the love over kids meal toys today, there’s this story in Entertainment Weekly which puts for the notion that Burger King’s new Iron Man 2 Kids Meal toys are sexist!

The article’s writer says that Burger King lists the toys as follows: “and an exclusive collection of BK Kids Meal toys that will include “four lifestyle accessories for girls and four action-packed toys for boys,” and that Burger king should have left out of their press release the point of which toys are for which gender.

Okay, so that’s a silly wording for a press release that’s just begging for trouble. But seriously, since when will the press releases be used to decide where to go for lunch? And when will kids see the toys in the story and know which gender is to have which toy?

When I reported on the BG IM2 toys yesterday, I saw the Arc Reactor necklaces as kinda cool, a way for any kids to pretend they’re wearing the Arc Reactor like Tony Stark has to.

Frankly, I think the only people who have issues with alleged sexist kids meal toys are those who have a giant chip on their shoulder to begin with.

Thoughts?

Santa Clara middle school kids are overweight or obese.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with the fact that local schools serve pizza EVERY DAY at lunch. Or that schools are cutting PE from their curriculum in an effort to save money. Or that most fast food places have adopted healthier choices like fruit and salads to add to a meal in place of french fries. Or that parents are responsible for actually parenting their kids. No. Let’s play “nanny,” and blame the Golden Arches!

Yes, it’s true that Tony Stark’s first impulse upon returning home to freedom wasn’t to build his iconic Iron Man super suit, it was to have a cheeseburger from Burger King. And now, Tony’s back at BK with a cool line of Iron Man 2 toys that both girls and boys will like.

Ranging from a built it yourself Ironman to Flip n Fly War Machine, to a host of Iron Man Jewelry that only Pepper Potts would love, these Iron Man toys are sure to get kids to beg Mom and Dad for a burger night out. Other toys include an Iron Man head message board, both a Mark IV and Mark Six charm necklaces, and cyclone spinning robot drone.

Now for the legal mumbo jumbo … “All toys are free with the purchase of a Club BK Kids meal at all participating Burger King restautants for a limited time only. While supplies last.” Blah blah blah.
Kids can also go online and play the Iron Man 2 Zoom Space game at clubbk.com.

Why are you still reading this?! Go fly over to Burger King right now and get youself a kids meal, STAT!
