Some toys can only be enjoyed in the great outdoors (jumping on a pogo stick inside is a sure way to get grounded).

OK, it’s August, and where I live that’s Indian Summer. So, of course, it’s like a thousand degrees outside (OK, to be accurate, it’s over 90 every day this week). And that’s making me long for Winter time where Frosty, Snowboarding, and snowball fights send a welcome shiver down your neck. Especially if you’re armed with this super cool Snowball Slingshot by Wham-O.

One of my son’s favorite merit badges in Cub Scouts was bike riding. He enjoyed earning that one because not only did he learn to ride his ride, but he also won a bike competition that got him a medal for it as well. But the road wasn’t an easy one and if I had had the Chalk City Road Maker to help teach him, life would’ve been much easier.

We’re not smack dab in the middle of summer and let’s face it. It’s hot. Damn hot. Africa hot. And when it’s so damn hot, we usually turn to water sports to keep us cool. But unless you live in California (where I think it’s the law to have a pool in the back yard), chances are you either have to go to the local city pool and deal with hundreds of screaming kids and floating “baby ruth bars,” or you get a slip in slide. Or, you go all out and this this Wahii WaterSlide 75 foot slide! Yikes!

When I was a kid, lawn darts where all the rage. Giant pointy darts that you tossed into a hulu like circle for points. But some risk averse busy body began to claim that a child would be killed stone dead by being impalled by them, so the forces of the politically correct declared them persona no grata. I wonder what they’d think of this cool lawn version of Angry Birds?

You knew it had to happen sooner or later. NERF has joined the Army and has released a set of GI Joe themed N-Strike blasters and foam swords. The toys are part of a massive merchandising tie-in Hasbro has with the upcoming sequel GI Joe: Retaliation, starring Channing Tatum, Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, and Bruce Willis.

With summer right around the calendar corner, the weather is getting predictably warmer. And that usually leads us outside and in the water to stay cool. That when “Slip n Slide” re enters our vocabulary, right up there with public pool and recreational swim. And it’s also when parents begin shopping for inflatable pool slides and toys to keep their kids entertained and their minds off the summer heat. However, it’s a good idea to avoid or flat out return Banzai Inflatable Pool Slides, as they’ve been recalled for being flat out too darn dangerous.

Remember the Spirograph? You stuck a pen in this cogwheel like device, spun it and you got all this pretty petal like designs. And you could switch out the colors and just go round and round in circles for hours. A kinda useless toy, considering, but it was a huge hit in the 60s/70s. But what if you could do that all around the neighborhood? Now that would be fun. Enter ChalkTrail, which turns your bike or scooter into the worlds best Spirograph, or even Etch-a-Sketch! Here’s how it works …
