With kids returning to schools, parents hope that their minds shift summertime fun, to learning something. But there’s no reason that they can’t do both at the same time (especially since the weather is still a tad warm for my tastes). That’s where toy manufacturers are hoping that toy tablets will appeal to a kid’s need to play, and a parent’s desire that they learn something. And studies show that kids are wired for it. Check out these cool tablets …

It must have been the exciting Seven Minutes of Terror that the Mars Curiosity Lander underwent a few weeks ago to enter the Martian atmosphere and then be dangled from a complicated crane to touch down on the Red Planet. But a Mars Science Laboratory and Curiosity playset, designed by Stephen Pakbaz (Perijove) has reached the 10,000 vote plateau (half of which came within 24 hours of Curiosity’s landing, to boot) and will now be considered as it’s own set for sale on LEGO.com and the LEGO Store. One of my son’s favorite merit badges in Cub Scouts was bike riding. He enjoyed earning that one because not only did he learn to ride his ride, but he also won a bike competition that got him a medal for it as well. But the road wasn’t an easy one and if I had had the Chalk City Road Maker to help teach him, life would’ve been much easier.

But Toys R Us is looking to ease the pain with a cool lineup of backpacks based on popular toy characters for both boys and girls.
